Christmas Crafts:

~Reindeer Necklace~
(makes one)

Supplies

-27 inches red or green cording
-One half pipe-cleaner (chenille stem), green or brown
-One medium red pompon
-Two small wiggly eyes
-One old-fashioned christmas bulb (long style) blue, white or green
-Glue, Hot glue gun and glue stick recommended
-Pencil or other small round object to wrap pipe-cleaner around

Twist pipe-cleaner around the pencil, in a circular notion. This should shape it into a curlique. Slide off pencil, stretch out slightly, wrap the middle part around the screw-top of the bulb, once. The ends should extend out to the sides and the middle part should overlap in back of the bulb. Take the ends of the cording and place in between the overlapping pipe-cleaner. Place a dab of glue on this and push the pipe-cleaner and cording together. Next, glue the eyes on the front. Place the pompon underneath the eyes as a nose, glue in place. Adjust the pipe cleaner as you like to form antlers.

*This can also make a cute tree ornament or other decoration.

~Decorated Ornaments~

Supplies

-undecorated colored glass ornaments
-various colored permanent marker pens (fine tip)
-metallic marker pens
-glitter
-bottled glue with a fine tip

There are several options for this project. What you use is up to you. How decorative they are is up to the creator.

You can use the pens to write names or sayings such as "Ho! Ho! Ho!" "Season's Greetings" and "Merry Christmas" on them. Snowflakes, snow (dots) and holly berries and leaves are cute. You can practice first on paper to get the general shape. Or just go for it. Place the ornaments upside-down in the storage tray to dry. Try stencils if you like.

Another idea is to draw designs or squiggly lines all over the ornament with the glue and shake glitter on them. You can try names, for a personal touch. The kids really enjoy this. (shh, so did I)

~Clay Pot Bell~
(makes one)

Supplies

-one medium-large jingle bell
-one small clay pot
-paint
-brushes and/or sponges
-paper plates or containers for the paint
-raffia - a handful, about 18 inches long or sturdy ribbon (for attaching bell)

Decorate the outside of the clay pot as you like using the paint, sponges and brushes. This will need to dry, so use quick drying paint. Thread the raffia through the bell hook so that an even length is on each end. Guide raffia end up through pot hole (from inside pot). Choose how far you want the bell to hang, mark the raffia with a pencil. Remove bell rope from the pot and knot the raffia several times at point you marked. Thread back into pot hole. About 2 inches from the ends of the raffia, tie another knot or two.

~Snowman Doorstop~
(makes one)

Supplies

-one brick
-small piece of felt (for bottom of brick)
-paint- red, black, white, orange and whatever color for eyes
-brushes and sponge pieces
-glue - for attaching felt
-paper plates or othe containers for the paint
-"scarf" fabric -about 20 inches by 3/4 inch

Standing the brick up on end, sponge paint about 3/4 of it white, skipping the end it stands on. Paint the other part black, this is his hat, so get the top, too. Using brushes, add arms on the narrow sides. On the front, add buttons, carrot nose, mouth and eyes. Leave enough space between the mouth and buttons for the scarf. Allow to dry.

After paint is dry, glue the felt onto the unpainted bottom. Tie the scarf around the brick, between the mouth and buttons. Knot securely. You now have a very cute snowman to cheer up your home.

~Decorated Gift Bags~
(makes one)

Supplies

-paper lunch bag
-hole punch
-paints
-paper plates or other containers for the paints
-sponges and brushes
-gift wrap ribbon - about 20 inches for each bag
-scissors- crazy edged scissors recommended

Taking the scissors, cut away the top edge a bit. (this can be skipped with little kids) If using regular scissors, have the kids make their own wavy edge. Using the hole punch, place holes around the top of the bag, about 1 inch from top and spaced every 3 inches or so. Use the paint, sponges and brushes to make cute designs on the bag. Make sure the paint is not too thick on application (do this by dabbing the sponge or brush on the plate or a napkin). Allow to dry.

After the bag has dried, thread the ribbon in and out the holes you punched earlier. Knot the ends, either together or seperately to ensure the ribbon stays threaded. When ready to use, add tissue paper and pull the ribbon to close the bag.
