Witches' Brooms
Makes 20 brooms
½ c. packed brown sugar
½ c. margarine or butter, softened
2 Tbsp. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 ½ c. all-purpose flour
¹/8 tsp. salt
10 pretzel rods, cut in half crosswise
2 tsp. shortening
²/3 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
¹/3 c. butterscotch flavored chips
Heat oven to 350°F. Mix brown sugar, margarine, water and vanilla in medium bowl. Stir in flour and salt. Shape into 20 - 1¼-inch balls.
Place pretzel rod halves on ungreased cookie sheet. Press ball of dough onto cut end of each rod. Press dough with fork to resemble broom bristles. Bake about 12 minutes or until set but not brown. Remove from cookie sheet. Cool completely on wire rack.
Cover cookie sheet with waxed paper. Place brooms on waxed paper. Heat shortening and chocolate chips over low heat, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth. Remove from heat. Spoon melted chocolate over brooms, leaving about 3 inches at top of pretzel handle and bottom halves of cookie bristles uncovered. Place butterscotch chips in microwaveable bowl. Microwave uncovered on medium-high (70%) 30 to 50 seconds, stirring after 30 seconds, until chips are smooth when stirred. Drizzle over chocolate. Let stand until chocolate is set.
This last one is something I came up with while trying to find a use for those jigglers Halloween trays the grocery store was shoving at me. LoL.
Halloween Punch
Take the jello jigglers Halloween shapes trays, or any other Halloween ice cube trays or chocolate molds. Mix up grape koolaid. Pour into molds and freeze. Repeat, making as many "ice cubes" as you can. Mix up orange koolaid and place in a punchbowl. At the last minute add the shapes to the punchbowl. When serving the punch, make sure each child gets an ice cube. Replenish cubes as needed. Let the kids have fun comparing shapes.
