The First Thanksgiving

illustrated by Thomas Locker

Come join the Pilgrims in the true story of their journey. Share the hardships and trials from long before they reached Plymouth Rock. Historical facts are brought to the front of this tale, discover how the Indians really were. The illustrations bring to life the experiences of so many and draw you in with all the added detail. Recommended as a family story or older child's book due to the advanced vocabulary. This book is sure to open up discussion.

Turkeys, Pilgrims and Indian Corn:
The Story of the Thanksgiving Symbols

by Edna Barth
Illustrated by Ursula Arndt

This encyclopedia of sorts helps to enlighten and delight. It shares so many things not taught in school. While not a book to read straight through in one sitting, it allows for discussions with the entire family. It tells about the people, the symbols, the true way of life. And offers resources for finding out more. A good source for school assignments or educational forays.
